Quick setup guide for MP Tracking Pixel
Follow this guide to start sending Shopify customer events to Google Analytics 4.
Step 1: Open the app
From your Shopify admin, open MP Tracking Pixel.
The dashboard includes a setup guide, monthly usage overview, and shortcuts for Tracking IDs and support.
Step 2: Add your GA4 Tracking ID
Go to Tracking IDs and click Add tracking ID.
Enter:
- Name: A label such as
Primary tracking ID - GA4 Measurement ID: A value like
G-ABC123DEF - Measurement Protocol API secret: The API secret from your GA4 web data stream
MP Tracking Pixel currently allows one Tracking ID per store.
Step 3: Choose ecommerce events
In the Tracking ID form, review the Ecommerce events section.
Enable the Shopify events you want to send to GA4, such as product views, add-to-cart events, checkout events, purchases, and searches.
Step 4: Choose your GA4 item_id mapping
Select the item_id format that matches the product IDs used by your Google Merchant Center feed or Google Ads setup.
The default option uses Shopify variant ID.
Step 5: Enable storefront Google tag if needed
If you enable Enable gtag.js on storefront, open the Shopify theme editor and enable the Tracking snippet app embed.
This helps load Google tag code on the storefront and supports GA4 DebugView testing.
Step 6: Save and wait for sync
Click Save.
After creating, updating, activating, or deactivating a Tracking ID, storefront sync may take 2-5 minutes.
Step 7: Verify events in GA4
Open your storefront and trigger a few actions, such as viewing a product, adding it to cart, starting checkout, or completing a test order.
Then open Google Analytics and check Realtime or DebugView.
