How to test MP Tracking Pixel with GA4 Realtime and DebugView
Use GA4 Realtime or DebugView to confirm that Shopify events are being sent.
Before testing
Check that:
- Your Tracking ID is active
- Your GA4 Measurement ID is correct
- Your Measurement Protocol API secret is saved
- The events you want to test are enabled
- Enable gtag.js on storefront is turned on if you want to use DebugView
- The Tracking snippet app embed is enabled in your live theme
Enable DebugView mode
- Open MP Tracking Pixel.
- Go to Tracking IDs.
- Open your Tracking ID.
- Turn on GA4 DebugView mode.
- Click Save.
Trigger test events
Open your storefront and trigger a few actions:
- View a collection
- View a product
- Add a product to cart
- View cart
- Start checkout
- Complete a test order
Check GA4
Open Google Analytics and check Realtime or DebugView for matching events.
Some events may take a few minutes to appear. Purchase events can also be retried by the collector when GA4 returns a temporary delivery error.
After testing
Turn off GA4 DebugView mode when you are done testing.
